The event kicks off with America the Beautiful being sung by the Harlem Boys Choir. The commentators are Jim Ross & Jerry Lawler for the RAW matches and Michael Cole & Tazz for SmackDown!

United States Championship
The Big Show (c) vs John Cena
Cena comes out first and delivers a rap/promo on The Big Show, which to his credit is actually rather amusing. Big Show now comes out pissed off and to be honest this was quite a one-sided match. Cena withstands the pressure for a while before gaining the advantage and hitting the FU! This only gets a 2 count though to Cena's confusement. Cena then grabs his chain to finish Show off but the ref confiscates it. While the ref is getting rid of the chain, Cena grabs a brass knuckle and whacks Show round the face before delivering a second FU for the win and his first WWE championship.

Not a great match, Cena didn't really get enough offence in which made Show look a bit weak when he eventually lost. The ending sequence worked very well though.
Winner and NEW United States Champion, John Cena (9:12)
Via Pinfall (FU)
**

World Tag Team Championships - Fatal Fourway match
Rob Van Dam & Booker T (c) vs La Resistance vs The Dudley Boyz vs Garrison Cade & Mark Jindrak

This is under sudden death rules and anyone can tag anybody else. The action goes down pretty much as you would expect with people tagging in, hitting some signature moves then getting out of there. Inevitably, all the teams rush the ring towards the end, leaving Booker T and Rob Conway. Booker manages to get the Scissor Kick, which is followed by the Five Star Frog Splash from RVD to retain the belts. Not a lot to this, just a way to get a lot of superstars onto the show.
Winners and STILL World Tag Champions, Rob Van Dam & Booker T (7:51)
Van Dam pinned Conway (Five Star Frog Splash)
**1/4

Christian vs Chris Jericho
This feud had built up over Jericho betting Christian that he could get with Trish Stratus, only for Trish to find out, even though Jericho had actually developed feelings for her. Top soap opera stuff. The match went back and forward for a while featuring some great action. After a submission sequence featuring a Texas Cloverleaf and the Walls of Jericho, Trish makes her way down to ringside to cheer on Jericho. Trish tries to get into the ring but is thrown to the floor by Christian. Jericho takes him down and checks on Trish, who mistakes him for Christian and gives him a hard elbow. Christian capitalises and grabs a roll-up for the win. Trish apologises to Jericho after the match before turning on him and beating the hell out of him. Christian then returns and he and Trish share a big kiss.

Really good match and the storyline with Trish didn't actually hinder it all. In fact the ending and swerve afterwards was fantastic stuff.

Via Pinfall (Roll-up pin)
